BYD has officially released the Seal 07, a mid-size electric sedan, on March 5, 2026, featuring its latest generation Blade Battery and ultra-fast charging capabilities. The vehicle starts at 169,900 yuan ($24,600 USD), positioning it as a competitive alternative to rivals like the Xiaomi SU7.

Core Specifications and Performance

The Seal 07 employs a rear-wheel-drive setup powered by a 240 kW permanent-magnet synchronous motor. It incorporates a 69 kWh battery pack, delivering a CLTC range of 705 km (approximately 438 miles). BYD reports energy consumption under 10 kWh per 100 km, making it efficient for daily use. The vehicle also integrates the second generation of BYD’s “God’s Eye” driving assistance system, providing advanced driver-assistance features (ADAS) including city Navigation on ADAS (NOA) across all trim levels.

Battery Tech: Short Blade 2.0 for Speed

BYD’s Blade Battery technology has received attention for its potential for 1,000 km ranges, but the Seal 07 uses the Short Blade Battery 2.0 variant. This design prioritizes high power throughput over maximum energy density. Unlike the Long Blade 2.0, which focuses on extended range, the Short Blade 2.0 enables 8C charging and 16C discharge rates. This allows the Seal 07 to leverage BYD’s new 1,500 kW Flash Charging network, adding almost 400 km of range in just 5 minutes.

The shift towards high-throughput batteries like the Short Blade 2.0 reflects a growing trend: automakers are prioritizing fast charging as a key differentiator over maximum range.

Dimensions and Competition

The Seal 07 measures 4,995 mm in length, 1,910 mm in width, and 1,495 mm in height, with a 2,900 mm wheelbase. This puts it in direct competition with the Xiaomi SU7, which starts at 215,900 yuan ($31,300 USD). The Seal 07’s entry price is 21.3% lower, making it a significant value proposition. In late February 2026, the Xiaomi SU7 Standard recorded 3,245 registrations, indicating strong market demand in this segment.

Interior and Autonomous Features

The interior includes a three-screen “2+1” display setup and a W-HUD head-up display. Additional features include a minimalist steering-column-mounted gear selector, wireless charging, and an integrated refrigerator. The vehicle is equipped with a roof-mounted LiDAR unit to support its autonomous driving system.

Production and Market Outlook

BYD delivered 152,430 New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) in February 2026, a 16% increase year-over-year. The company aims for 4.5 million units of annual production capacity. Deliveries of the Seal 07 are expected to begin from the Changzhou plant in late March 2026.

The Seal 07’s launch underscores BYD’s aggressive strategy in the EV market. By combining competitive pricing with advanced battery technology, the company is poised to further expand its market share.
