Changan’s electric vehicle brand, Deepal, has launched its L06 model, marking a significant step in bringing high-end automotive technology to a wider consumer base. Unveiled in Chongqing on November 18, 2025, the L06 is positioned as a long-range sports sedan with pricing ranging from 134,900 to 156,900 yuan (roughly $18,800 – $21,800 USD).
Supercar Suspension in an Affordable EV
What sets the Deepal L06 apart is its adoption of BWI Group’s fourth-generation MagneRide® magnetic ride suspension system. This technology, previously found almost exclusively in luxury and high-performance vehicles like Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and Cadillacs, allows the suspension to adjust damping 1,000 times per second. This provides both precise handling and a comfortable ride.
Why this matters: Magnetic ride suspension represents a leap in automotive dynamics. Traditional suspension systems react to road conditions; MagneRide actively predicts and adjusts for them, improving stability and control. The fact that this is now appearing in a mass-market EV signals a shift in industry expectations.
Design and Interior Features
The L06’s exterior is striking, with split headlights, a closed grille, and frameless doors. Its dimensions are 4,830mm long, 1,905mm wide, and 1,480mm high, with a 2,900mm wheelbase.
Inside, the cabin features a T-shaped layout with an emphasis on premium materials (over 90% soft-touch surfaces). Highlights include a three-spoke steering wheel, a massive 50-inch AR-HUD, racing-inspired seats with substantial side support (91.7mm), customizable 256-color ambient lighting, and a large 15.6-inch “sunflower screen.”
Tech Specs: LiDAR and Cutting-Edge Processing
The L06 is equipped with a first-of-its-kind 3nm automotive-grade cockpit chip and standard LiDAR sensors across all trims. This enables city and highway autopilot functions developed in partnership with Horizon Robotics.
The vehicle offers two powertrain options:
- Pure Electric: 200 kW (268 hp) motor, up to 670km CLTC range, and 30-80% charge in 15 minutes.
- Extended-Range: 1.5L range extender (72kW) paired with a 175 kW (235 hp) electric motor and a 28.39 kWh battery. This delivers 240km of pure electric range and up to 1,500km total range.
The Rise of Chinese Automotive Tech
The magnetic ride suspension technology originated with General Motors Delphi Automotive, but was later acquired and further developed by Beijing West Industries (BWI) in China. BWI now supplies this technology to manufacturers globally.
Context: The L06’s use of MagneRide is part of a broader trend: Chinese automakers are rapidly integrating advanced technologies into their vehicles, often at price points lower than Western competitors. BWI’s expansion, with production facilities in Poland, Shenzhen, and Zhangjiakou, demonstrates China’s growing dominance in automotive component manufacturing.
The Deepal L06 represents a compelling combination of luxury features, cutting-edge technology, and accessible pricing. Its integration of supercar-level suspension systems into a mainstream EV marks a new benchmark for performance and comfort in the electric vehicle market.
