Dacia Sandero Facelift: Cheaper Than Ever, Launching This Winter

21

Dacia is set to release a refreshed version of its best-selling Sandero and Sandero Stepway models this winter, and surprisingly, both will be cheaper than the outgoing versions – starting at just £14,795. The update includes a new exterior design, improved technology, and more efficient engines, all while maintaining the brand’s commitment to affordability.

What’s New: Design and Trim Levels

The updated Sandero and Stepway feature a distinctive “inverted T-shape” headlight design, along with redesigned bumpers. The Stepway model, known for its rugged appearance, also gets a new “Starkle” material for body protection, made with 20% recycled plastic – a step toward sustainability.

Trim levels start with the Essential trim, offering cruise control, air conditioning, and electric windows, but notably lacks an infotainment screen; instead, it includes a smartphone holder. Higher trims, like Expression and Journey (or Extreme for the Stepway), add features such as a 10-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, rear parking sensors, and even heated seats.

Performance and Powertrains

The base Sandero will come with a 100bhp three-cylinder turbo engine, slightly more powerful than the previous model. The Stepway boasts a slightly stronger 110bhp version, but its heavier weight means similar 0-62mph times: 9.7 seconds for the Sandero and 10 seconds for the Stepway.

Fuel economy remains competitive, with the Sandero averaging 53mpg and the Stepway 50mpg. Notably, Dacia will introduce a hybrid powertrain option in 2026, potentially using the 155bhp system from the Bigster SUV.

Safety Upgrades

To meet updated European safety standards, the new Sandero and Stepway include standard automatic emergency braking (with pedestrian and cyclist detection), driver-attention monitoring, and automatic high beams. These systems are designed to enhance safety without adding significant cost.

Why This Matters

Dacia’s move to lower prices on the updated Sandero is significant in a market where car prices continue to rise. The Sandero remains one of the most affordable new cars available, making it a popular choice for budget-conscious buyers. This price reduction, combined with the updated features, reinforces Dacia’s position as a leader in value-driven automotive design.

The move also shows that even with inflation and supply chain issues, manufacturers can still compete on price by streamlining production and focusing on core features. The Sandero’s success hinges on its ability to offer basic transportation without unnecessary frills, appealing to a wide range of buyers.

Deliveries of the updated Sandero and Stepway are scheduled to begin early next year, just in time for a post-Christmas bargain.
