11

Lotus has launched its first plug-in hybrid SUV, the Eletre X (known as “For Me” within the Chinese market), with deliveries beginning March 30th. Priced at approximately $73,500 USD, the Eletre X combines a powerful gasoline engine with electric motors for impressive performance and range. This launch marks Lotus’s expansion into the hybrid vehicle segment, catering to consumers seeking both efficiency and high-speed capability.

Performance and Powertrain

The Eletre X boasts a combined power output of 939 horsepower (700 kW) derived from a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine and dual electric motors. This configuration enables a rapid acceleration of 0 to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) in just 3.3 seconds, making it one of the quickest SUVs in its class. The vehicle is equipped with a 70 kWh battery, providing an all-electric range of up to 261 miles (420 km) under CLTC testing standards.

The powertrain is built around a high-voltage 900V system. In hybrid mode, the Eletre X achieves fuel efficiency figures between 0.06 and 0.07 liters per 100 km (WLTC standards). When the battery is depleted, fuel consumption rises to 5.98-6.1 liters per 100 km, but the vehicle still offers a combined range of up to 885 miles (1,416 km) thanks to its 52-liter fuel tank.

Trim Levels and Features

The Eletre X is available in two trims: Standard and SE. The entry-level Standard model, priced at $73,500, includes standard features such as 21-inch wheels, dual-chamber air suspension, and a Level 2 advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) powered by a 128-line LiDAR sensor and an Nvidia Drive Thor-U chip. The interior boasts five seats, a panoramic sunroof, three screens, and a 23-speaker KEF sound system.

The higher-end SE trim, priced at $80,730, adds advanced features like Navigate On Autopilot (NOA) for enhanced autonomous driving capabilities, an active 48V anti-roll bar, electrochromic panoramic glass roof, and carbon fiber interior accents. An optional four-seat configuration with captain chairs is available, offering premium comfort and adjustability.

Why this matters

The Lotus Eletre X represents a strategic move by the brand to capitalize on the growing demand for performance SUVs in the Chinese market. By offering a plug-in hybrid option alongside its all-electric Eletre, Lotus is broadening its appeal to consumers who may not yet be ready to fully commit to electric vehicles. The high-performance specifications and advanced technology features position the Eletre X as a competitive alternative to established luxury SUV brands.

The vehicle’s launch in China before global release (scheduled for June 2026) highlights the importance of the Chinese market for Lotus. This early entry allows the brand to refine the Eletre X based on real-world feedback before expanding sales to other regions.
