Mercedes-AMG is preparing a high-performance electric GLC SUV that will significantly outperform the standard model, boasting over 900 horsepower. This upcoming flagship will leverage cutting-edge drivetrain technology first showcased in the experimental 1,341 BHP GT XX prototype, marking a substantial technical departure from the base electric GLC unveiled earlier this year.

Triple-Motor Performance

The AMG GLC will feature a unique triple-motor setup: one axial-flux motor powering the front axle and two driving the rear wheels. This configuration will deliver an output exceeding 900 BHP—nearly double the standard GLC’s 489 BHP—positioning it as a direct competitor to Porsche’s forthcoming Cayenne Turbo, expected to reach up to 980 BHP with launch control.

Within AMG’s lineup, this model will become the third most powerful vehicle to date and the most potent AMG SUV, though it will eventually be surpassed by the 1,000 BHP GT SUV slated for release in 2027.

Acceleration and Top Speed Targets

AMG engineers are targeting a 0-62 mph time under 3.0 seconds, alongside a governed top speed of 155 mph. These figures underscore the vehicle’s intent to deliver uncompromising performance.

Battery Technology Breakthroughs

Critical to the GLC’s high output is AMG’s advanced battery technology. Unlike the standard GLC EQ, which uses prismatic cells, the AMG variant will employ cylindrical cells, offering superior power density and thermal management.

Direct Cooling System

The SUV’s 800V battery pack will incorporate a direct cooling system, where coolant flows around each individual cylindrical cell to maintain optimal operating temperatures. This is essential for sustaining the high discharge rates required by the triple-motor setup and enabling consistent 400kW charging capability—a 70kW improvement over the standard model.

Thermal Management for Track Use

The advanced cooling system is designed to dissipate heat rapidly during demanding track use, addressing a key limitation of existing high-performance electric vehicles. By managing thermal stress effectively, AMG aims to ensure consistent power delivery even under extreme conditions.
