Kia’s New Telluride: Sharper Looks and a Bold Grille

Kia has unveiled the redesigned 2027 Telluride SUV, ditching its previous frumpy look for a more modern and assertive aesthetic that draws inspiration from its electric sibling, the EV9. While sharing some visual cues with the EV9, the new Telluride retains its own distinct identity, particularly in its front grille design, which is sure to spark conversation.

The second-generation SUV boasts a noticeably squarer profile characterized by clean lines and gently flared fenders. Gone are the kinked D-pillar and transverse light bar that define the EV9’s look. Vertical LED lights at both ends offer a nod to its predecessor, but the grille is where the Telluride truly stands apart.

Most trims feature a partially blanked grille with vertical bars, while the rugged X-Pro trim receives a much bolder, blockier design. This off-road focused variant also includes exposed tow loops, higher roof rails, all-terrain tires, and an impressive 9.1 inches of ground clearance—features that debuted on the Telluride last year for the model year 2023.

Stepping inside reveals a transformation inspired by the EV9. The dashboard boasts a perfectly rectangular structure housing dual 12.3-inch screens. A more modern, four-spoke steering wheel replaces the outgoing model’s design, and the traditional console-mounted gear shifter has been swapped for a column-mounted unit found in the EV9.

Kia promises enhanced interior space across all three rows thanks to an expanded footprint. The new Telluride is 2.3 inches longer, 1 inch taller, and rides on a 3-inch longer wheelbase than its predecessor.

Powertrain details remain under wraps until Kia’s official debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show this month. However, industry whispers suggest the phasing out of the previous generation’s 291-hp naturally aspirated V6 in favor of two new engine options. These are rumored to include a less powerful 3.5-liter V6 generating 287 hp and a plug-in hybrid variant featuring a turbocharged 2.5-liter inline four.

The redesigned Telluride arrives at a time when the three-row SUV segment is fiercely competitive, with rivals like the Ford Explorer constantly evolving. Kia’s bolder styling and hints at modern powertrain technology position the new Telluride to make a strong statement in this crowded market.
