Toyota has unveiled the GR Yaris Morizo RR, a hardcore, track-focused version of its popular hot hatch. This limited-production model, revealed at the Tokyo Auto Salon, represents the peak of Toyota’s performance engineering for the GR Yaris platform.
Sharper Dynamics, Track-Focused Tuning
The GR Yaris Morizo RR isn’t just a cosmetic upgrade; it’s been fundamentally reworked for superior performance. Key improvements include:
- Enhanced Suspension: Stiffer settings deliver more precise handling and reduced body roll.
- Upgraded AWD System: A dedicated 50:50 torque split in a new 4WD mode maximizes grip and control.
- Lightweight Carbon Aero: A carbon-fiber rear wing and front spoiler increase downforce while minimizing weight.
These changes are the result of direct input from Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda, leveraging insights gained from grueling endurance races, including the Nürburgring 24 Hours. The car also uses the same Direct Automatic transmission found in the GR Corolla, further tuned for faster shifts.
Exclusive Production Run
Toyota will produce only 200 units of the GR Yaris Morizo RR, with half allocated to Japan and the other half to Europe. Prospective buyers will need to enter a lottery system to secure one, highlighting the vehicle’s exclusivity. Pricing remains unannounced, but given its rarity and performance enhancements, it’s expected to be substantial.
Visual and Interior Upgrades
The Morizo RR stands out with its Gravel Khaki paint, accented by bright yellow brake calipers. Inside, the cabin receives subtle upgrades, including a suede-finished racing steering wheel that complements the car’s aggressive character.
The GR Yaris Morizo RR isn’t just a faster car; it’s a statement about Toyota’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of performance in compact, accessible vehicles.
This track-focused Yaris underscores Toyota’s dedication to motorsport-derived technology, making it one of the most desirable performance cars in its segment.
