Volvo has unveiled a commercial variant of its compact EX30 electric vehicle, dubbed the EX30 Cargo. This new van, designed specifically for fleet sales in the UK, combines the EX30’s modern electric drivetrain with a utilitarian cargo layout.
Cargo Space and Practicality
The EX30 Cargo replaces the rear seats with a flat-floored cargo area, increasing usable space to 1,000 liters – a substantial improvement over the standard EX30’s 318-liter capacity with seats up. The van can carry up to 390kg (772 lbs) of payload.
Wider-opening rear doors and integrated attachment points enhance practicality for business users, while tinted rear windows add a layer of security for transported goods.
Performance Options
Notably, the EX30 Cargo is available with the same powerful dual-motor powertrain as the passenger version, delivering up to 423 bhp. This means the van can accelerate as quickly as some high-performance sports cars, despite its commercial purpose.
Powertrain options range from 148 bhp to 423 bhp, with three trim levels (Core, Plus, and Cross Country Plus) available.
Fleet Focus
Volvo UK is positioning the EX30 Cargo as a premium commercial vehicle, leveraging the brand’s reputation for safety and technology in the fleet market.
As Jack Munford, Volvo UK’s head of fleet, stated, the EX30 Cargo fills a gap for businesses seeking a compact, high-quality electric van.
The EX30 Cargo is sold exclusively through Volvo’s fleet sales channels, bypassing traditional dealerships. This reinforces Volvo’s direct approach to business customers.
The combination of rapid acceleration and substantial cargo capacity makes the EX30 Cargo a uniquely capable option for businesses needing a fast, versatile electric van.
