Xiaomi is strengthening its position in the electric vehicle (EV) market with a focus on personalization and advanced driver-assistance systems. The company recently unveiled a bespoke paint service, launching with a “Crystal Purple” edition of its YU7 Max SUV at the 2025 Guangzhou Auto Show. This move comes as Xiaomi continues to challenge established EV leaders like Tesla, with October sales figures indicating strong momentum.
Customization and Performance Specs
Xiaomi’s new customization program promises 100 unique color options over three years, appealing to buyers seeking exclusivity. The special-paint variants begin at around $1,540 USD, with premium add-ons like 24-K gold or carbon fiber trim available for further personalization.
The YU7 Max itself comes in both two-wheel drive (2WD) and four-wheel drive (4WD) configurations. The 2WD version delivers 235 kW with a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 5.88 seconds, and a CLTC range of 835 km. The 4WD models offer more potent performance, with options ranging from 365 kW (0-100 km/h in 4.27 s) to 508 kW (0-100 km/h in 3.23 s). These top-tier versions also boast fast charging capabilities: 10-80% in just 12 minutes with a 5.2C charge rate, adding up to 620 km of range in 15 minutes. The closed dual-chamber air suspension provides up to 222 mm of ground clearance.
Enhanced Safety and Driver Assistance
Xiaomi has also rolled out significant improvements to its driver-assist system, Xiaomi HAD Enhanced, through an over-the-air (OTA) update under Xiaomi HyperOS 1.11. This upgrade includes low-speed automatic emergency braking (LAEB/RAEB) operating at speeds up to 30 km/h in reverse, detecting pedestrians, vehicles, and two-wheelers. The AEB system now covers a broader speed range of 1-135 km/h, recognizing static obstacles such as walls and barriers.
The new Mis-Acceleration Inhibition (MAI) feature prevents unintended acceleration by suppressing power output during accidental pedal misapplication. At higher speeds (80-135 km/h), the system offers emergency steering assistance (AES) to avoid collisions, conducting up to two evasive maneuvers while prioritizing braking when possible. The driver remains in control, with the system overriding only when necessary.
The combination of customization, performance, and advanced safety features positions Xiaomi as a serious competitor in the rapidly evolving EV landscape. Xiaomi’s aggressive push into the automotive market reflects a broader trend toward personalized vehicles, with manufacturers increasingly offering unique options to attract buyers.
