2027 arrives.
And so does the Nissan Frontier Sport Edition. It sits between the SV and the Pro-4X like an awkward stepchild trying to find its place at the family dinner table. The point is clear though: cheap off-road hardware with some flash attached to the inside.
Is it really a new truck? No. It is an SV.
But Nissan dressed it up. The front gets painted black, as do the grille and the side mirrors. You get the aluminum skid plates underneath, something the base model doesn’t offer. There’s even an LED fog light setup to guide you into the dirt. And because nothing says “I can handle rough terrain” quite like branding, the bedsides bear a distinctive Sport decal.
Then there are the wheels.
Nineteen-inch black alloys wrapped in 32-inch Hankook Dynapro all-terren tires. That’s tall. That’s aggressive. It makes the mid-tier trim look dangerously close to its big brothers, the Pro-4X or Pro-X models. Maybe you’re saving money, maybe you’re just saving weight on your wallet.
Step inside.
Yellow everywhere. It looks less like a cohesive design language and more like someone threw a highlighter at the dashboard. The stitching on the seats matches. The center console does too. Door panels included.
It is jarring, sure, but effective if you like being woken up before the engine is even turned on.
Technology-wise? Standard fare. You get a 7-inch digital cluster. The infotainment screen jumps to 12.3 inches now. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are present, which is about all anyone cares about anymore.
If you don’t have an all-terrain package, you can still add the tires through the dealer. It’s an afterthought, but it’s there.
Other trims get small upgrades too. The Pro-X and Pro-4X gain a better wireless phone charger if you opt for the Pro Convenience package. Speaking of that package, the Convenience group now bundles in a sunroof, which seems irrelevant when you are stuck in a mud bog but nice enough on a sunny afternoon.
They also added a new color, Alpine Metallic, which I assume looks gray until the light hits it right.
Price? Unknown.
Nissan is holding out. They said summer. So wait until then. Or don’t buy anything. Your call.
The lineup keeps growing, expanding like taffy pulled thin. You want the capability without the sticker shock? This might be it.
Or maybe you’ll just wait.
See what happens next.
