Freelander 8 cabin reveal: six-seat zero-gravity setup and 46-inch screen details

Chery JLR just dropped a fresh look inside the Freelander 8. We are talking about a six-seat configuration before the vehicle even hits Chinese dealerships. The plan is for a second-half 2026 launch. That is a long wait for early adopters but gives time to digest the interior specs.

The cabin is configured as 2+2+2. Two individual seats in the second row. A third row for passengers. And yes, those second-row chairs are advertised as “zero-gravity” seats.

Why call them that? Because they come with integrated heating. Ventilation. Massage functions. It is basically a lounge on wheels. If you want more convenience, there are optional front seat-back tray tables. A ceiling-mounted rear entertainment screen. Cup holders built into the third-row armrests.

“The Freelander 8 measures 5118 mm in standard length, but regulatory records list up to 5185 mm depending on exterior equipment.”

The SUV itself is massive. The standard length sits at 5118 mm. Width of 2050 mm. Height of 1898 mm. The wheelbase stretches to 3040 mm. If the bumper or sensor array changes, the length swells to 5185 mm in some registry listings. Size matters in this segment.

Inside the Freelander 8 cockpit: screens and buttons

The dashboard is dominated by a 46.3-inch panoramic display. It stretches 1.2 meters wide. That is not a gimmick. It is an 8K screen. Paired with it is a 15.6-inch central touch display for primary controls.

But Chery JLR did not forget tactile feedback. The interior features physical buttons styled with a Paris stud finish. There are also K9-grade optical crystal floating knobs. They have 144 facets. They catch the light. They probably feel premium. You do not want to lose track of volume while driving, after all.

Technology under the hood

How powerful is the brain of this beast? It runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8397 automotive processor.

Qualcomm and Chery JLR claim a massive performance leap over the older Snapdragon 8295. Specifically, they cite a 12-fold increase in Neural Processing Unit (NPU) performance. They did not publish the exact testing conditions. But 12x is a loud number. It suggests heavy AI handling for cabin features or driving aids.

Then there is the autonomous driving stack. The vehicle uses Huawei Qiankun ADS hardware and software. Conflicting reports are already swirling. Some media outlets mention an ADS 4.1 configuration with an 896-line LiDAR. Others speculate about an ADS 5 setup featuring a quad-LiDAR arrangement.

Which one makes the cut? We do not know yet. The final production spec requires confirmation.

Freelander 8 EREV powertrain and range

The Freelander 8 runs on an 800V extended-range EV (EREV) platform. This is a common setup for Chinese SUVs, combining a battery with a gas range-extender.

Here is the breakdown:
* Engine: 1.5T range-extender producing 115 kW.
* Battery: 60.331 kWh ternary NMC battery by CATL (Freevoy series).
* Charging: Peak input of 350 kW.
* Towing: Max rated capacity of 2,000 kilograms.

In terms of pure electric travel, Chery JLR lists a WLTC range of 221 km. That is decent for daily commuting without touching the gas tank. The fast charging capability should help when you do run low.

When will it launch?

The target remains the Chinese market in H2 2026. Chery JLR is currently running a preview phase. Selected dealership display vehicles are appearing. A 30-city roadshow is being organized. They are building hype.

But crucial details are missing. There is no price. No production targets. No delivery schedules. We do not know which trim levels will get the massage seats or the crystal knobs.

Is the zero-gravity seat enough to justify a multi-million dollar investment from the market? Only time will tell. The specs are impressive on paper. The cabin feels like a competitor to high-end luxury sedans. But without a price tag, it is just a very expensive rumor until the official sales begin.

One question lingers: Will the 46-inch screen dominate the interior design, or will the physical controls keep it grounded?
