Here is another headache for the Tesla Model Y. The XPeng L03. That is what it is called. This is the brand’s third confirmed entry for the United Kingdom and it aims to eat lunch from some of the most dominant players on the market right now.
It arrives as a coupe-SUV. Styling? “Supercar-inspired,” says the firm. Realistically? It borrows heavily from the best. The front screams Polestar 4. Look at the rear, and that spoiler and bumper look like they gazed into a Porsche Taycan for inspiration and blended in. It’s sharp. It’s aggressive.
Why the L03 matters for European buyers
Positioned below the already available XPeng G6, this machine has premium ambitions that feel heavier than its badge. XPeng claims its aerodynamic shape results in a class-leading drag coefficient of just 0.228 Cd.
It won’t be massive either. We expect it to measure roughly 4.65 meters long. That makes it 10 centimeters shorter than the G6. It lands square on the Skoda Enyaq Coupe.
But what happens inside matters just as much for those hunting for value in the UK EV space.
Interior tech and space specs
Skip the clutter. The dashboard is clean, minimalist, and dominated by a massive 15.6-inch central display. It’s the hub for everything. XPeng promises “lounge-style” seating that supposedly prioritizes comfort over sporty bucket shapes.
Need space for gear? There are 37 designated storage spaces scattered through the cabin. Not a number to brag at parties, perhaps. But for a buyer checking if a car actually holds a stroller, a suitcase, and a grocery bag simultaneously, it sounds plausible. They also cite a generous cargo capacity and a towing limit of 1,500 kg.
Powertrain details: Hybrid or纯电?
XPeng is playing tight-lipped on specifics right now. However, industry chatter suggests this vehicle sits on a 400-volt architecture. It is a step down from the G6’s sophisticated 800-volt system. You lose some charging speed potentially. But efficiency is still king in a way that budget-conscious consumers respect.
We anticipate two drivetrains when it finally goes on sale.
* Pure battery electric versions.
* A Range Extender (EREV) hybrid option.
Battery capacities are expected to settle around 58 kWh and 71 kWh packs for the UK and broader European market. If you pick the electric route, you are looking at a range of roughly 276 to 323 miles (WLTP standard likely).
Worried about charging anxiety on UK motorways? The range-extended variant claims over 600 miles of total range by combining electric drive with a gasoline generator. This could be a serious selling point against pure rivals that force you into planning every charging stop.
Smart driving features: When will they actually work in Europe?
Autonomous driving sounds great until you need to park a rainy Sunday night in Manchester.
The L03 includes NGP (Next Generation Pilot), XPeng’s advanced driver assistance suite. It relies on three Turing AI Chips and feeds on Google Maps data to parse complex scenarios. XPeng is technically ambitious.
There is a catch for British buyers though. XPeng plans a progressive rollout of this automated technology across Europe starting in 2027. Since the car is hitting showrooms around the same time, early adopters might get the hardware but lack the software keys. It remains to be seen if the “futureproofed” AI assistant with over-the-air update capability will bridge that gap.
Final thoughts on pricing and availability
XPeng is betting big on its “In Europe, For Europe” strategy here. They are trying to take globally proven tech and tailor the interface, connectivity, and features specifically for Western drivers who often find Asian EV interfaces a steep learning curve.
The launch window is 2027.
The starting price? Around £35,000.
That price point changes the math entirely against the Tesla Model Y Performance and trims up the Volkswagen ID.4.
Will the styling appeal be enough? Does the potential software delay hurt the immediate appeal? We’ll know soon enough when the gates open next year.
Until then, watch out. The L03 is coming. And it wants your attention.
