Speed demons rule Goodwood this year

12

There’s really nowhere else like Goodwood. Not really. It isn’t a posh static show where people sip champagne and whisper. You have cars screaming up a 1.16 mile hill climb. Brutal. Vertical. Fast.

This year’s field was weird. Classic race machinery mixed with modern tech. The results? Surprisingly chaotic. The top ten weren’t just fast; they were engineered for violence.

Ryan Tuerck drove a Toyota-Judd Formula Supra to the tenth spot. He clocked in at 49.02 seconds. The Dodge Viper GTS R beat him slightly. The Nissan 300 ZX Turbo wasn’t far behind either. Then you had Travis Pastrana in that absurd Subaru Brataroo 9.5 Liter Turbo. We got to see it closer this time.

The real story though? Electric cars dominated the top two. Ford’s modified Super Mustang Mach E took first place. It edged out the fourth-generation Formula E car by about half a second. Just barely.

Is the combustion era actually dead here? Maybe not.

The Mach E was still 4.33 seconds slower than the McMurty Spirling. That little electric brick holds the all-time record at 39.08s. It smashed the previous EV record held by Ford’s SuperVan 4 2 back in the day. But that doesn’t matter for today’s rankings. The Mach E beat the fastest combustion engine car on this list.

Here’s the list.

  • Ford Super Mustang Mach-E – 41.98 seconds
  • Formula 4 Gen4 – 42.46 seconds
  • Shadow-Chevrolet – 46.31 seconds
